HELP NEEDED WITH UNDERAGE TEAMS

September 8th, 2012 by Aidan Mernagh No comments »

The Season for U12 and U14 teams begins on the 15th of this month and we are looking for help from anyone who is interested as we need people to get involved at this level. We have players from the Junior teams helping out with the Training at the moment but with their game fixtures falling on the same days as the underage games they are unable to be present for matches. We would ideally like parents to get involved but anyone who has an interest is welcome. We train during the week and fixtures are every fortnight .

We don’t want a situation where a team will have to be withdrawn from the league. Anyone interested please contact any club member or email Aidan at mernaghaidan@yahoo.com or ring on 0851247468.

B Team Off To Good Start

August 20th, 2012 by Aidan Mernagh No comments »

The B team kicked off their season with a league match at home to Casement Celtic last Sunday. They did it the hard way going one goal down and then come back to level from a well taken goal from James Barry. Kanturk who found it hard to get their passing going gave away a penalty but Kanturk keeper Stuart Allen made a great save to keep it one all. Kanturk then conceded a second from a well taken free and were 2-1 down at the break. While the game was even enough Kanturk knew they had more to offer and came out in the second half and gave a better account of themselves and put huge pressure on the Casement defence throughout the half. Casement stood up to the challenge well but Kanturk broke through in the last ten minutes to score first from James Barry to calmly slot home again and then for Ian Winters to volley home a through ball and run out winners.

Training has started last week and is on every Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm. If you are interested Monday is an opportunity to meet everyone and listen to the plans for the season ahead. All players new and existing are welcome and also if you played for the club before you are more than welcome to return. Francis Higgins Memorial Cup Report

June 9th, 2012 by Aidan Mernagh No comments »

Last Saturday saw The Francis Higgins Memorial Cup take place at Gurteenard. While the rain bucketed down spirits were high and the players enjoyed the game. While results in games like this are at the back of everyone’s head as enjoyment is the name of the game it was Pat O’Neill’s Tigers who took the honours on the day and took home the cup. Stand out players on the day were Eamon Barry in goals for Sam Barry’s team who made regular top saves throughout to keep the game close and Vinny Murphy in the other goal showing his keeper skills ( with the aid of an umbrella) with Pat O’Neill turning in a very impressive display. Thanks to everyone who did come out to watch and support the club in very wet conditions and a special thanks to the Higgins family who presented the cup. Click into the photos to view full size.

Francis Higgins Memorial Cup

This Saturday 2nd of June at Gurteenard there is a real treat for young and old to see the players of yesteryear to show us they still have what it takes to get togged out and compete on the field. Hopefully they can bring some skill and flair to the pitch also as  Pat O’Neill’s XI “The Tigers” will be up against Sam Barry’s XI “The Baker Boys” in what promises to be an entertaining cup Final. All donations on the day would be welcome and very much appreciated by the Club. So with the fine weather we are having please come out to support kick off 3.00pm
