Kanturk AFC u17 travelled to league leaders and undefeated Corinthians late on Saturday afternoon.
This was a Kanturk team that seemed to love taking a lead and then throwing it away, history was about to repeat itself…nearly.
Kanturk were enjoying playing on the Astro and stringing some nice moves together. After 20 minutes Tadgh Corrigan played in Ryan Finn to calmly slot the ball home, 1-0 to Kanturk and it stayed that way till half time.
Oisin Mernagh came on for the second half and rewarded his manager 2 minutes later with a lovely half volley into the net after the ball had been flicked on by Ryan Finn.
Another substitute was to add to the score, Tadgh O’Connor saw his shot come off the post but Kain O’Leary following in smashed the ball from close range for 3-0.
Home and hosed surely, well this was a team that threw away a 3 goal lead 2 weeks before.
A corner conceded with 12 minutes left wasn’t dealt with 3-1. The clock was ticking.
Kanturks back 4 led by Fionn Bourke and with Aaron Breen performing heroics in goal held out, until the 94th minute, 3-2.
Just enough time for a free kick, Corinthians piled all 11 forward but Kanturk held onto their lead, the players celebrated the final whistle whilst the coach needed to go for a lie down in a dark room. History in this instance did not repeat itself.
Our thanks to Corinthians for hosting who battled to the end and all our players and supporters for travelling.
