Kanturk AFC Under 14A team got their first win of the season in some style at Pat Bowdren park, putting Wilton to the sword with a 6-2 scoreline. Dara O Sullivan was returning to the side to play in goals and TJ Doherty made his debut in what is hoped to be a fine career in a Kanturk jersey.
Peter Gubbins and Callum Dennehy were dominating the left hand side of the pitch, when Peter let fly with a rising drive it thundered in to the roof of the net to send Kanturk on their way with just two minutes gone. Darragh Aherne was really industrious in the midfield with Shaun Rahilly, Billy Sheill and Finn Quinlivan never allowing Wilton time on the ball. They got their reward when Aherne struck to make it 2 nil to Kanturk. Finn Quinlivan continued his excellent start to the season when he went on a mazy dribble down the right hand side and calmly finished low to the corner to make it 3 nil to Kanturk with 15 minutes played.
Charlie Sheahan and Aiden Clifford were magnificent at the back, dealing capably with the threat that Wilton brought. Cian O Riordan should have been awarded a penalty but Wilton were unable to clear the danger fully as Darragh Aherne grabbed his second goal of the game with a fine shot. TJ Doherty in midfield was playing really well adding plenty of energy and no little amount of quality to Kanturk's attacking patterns.
As the second half began, Kanturk maintained their stranglehold on the game. Dylan McMahon continued to combine really well with the relentless Cian O Riordan as Kanturk searched for more goals. It arrived courtesy of a well worked move down the left with neat interplay between Conor Taylor, Eli O Sullivan and Cian O Riordan. Cian duly whipped in an excellent corner with lots of spin and when the ball fell to Aiden Clifford he applied his trademark composed finish. Kanturk maintained posession really well and kept the play stretched. Eli O Sullivan was a constant thorn in the Wilton side with lung bursting runs to the bye line and quality crosses into the box causing all sorts of difficulties for Wilton. Charlie Sheahan was calm in posession and linked up with Peter Gubbins really well down the right hand side.
Kanturk's final goal arrived when Finn Quinlivan raced into the box and fired an effort that the Wilton keeper was unable to hold but Matty O Callaghan applied a poachers finish. 6 -2 it ended. Tougher tests to come but a well deserved win for our boys👍
