Kanturk AFC u14 travelled to Carrigtwohill on a lovely spring Saturday morning. Once more the instruction was to be on it from the start and once more
Kanturk found themselves a goal down after 3 minutes. With the sun shining and the wind dropping, slowly they played themselves back in and 10 minutes later a lovely through ball from Denis McCarthy found Denis Murphy who powered his way through before blasting the ball home. A few minutes later Billy O’Callaghan fed Ryley Thompson who calmly slotted the ball home.
With almost the last kick of the half Ross O’Callaghan smashed in a free kick from the edge of the area.
Into the second half 3-1 up
And surely cruising. No, the wind picked up and the sun disappeared, along with Kanturks control of the game. Within the space of 15 minutes 2 goals had been conceded.
But the wind dropped again and the sun shone and like the early daffodils the real Kanturk suddenly appeared. Suddenly the Turks were attacking again and as the ball pinged around the opposition penalty box our captain for the day Denis McCarthy was on hand to poke the ball home to retake the lead. With 6 or 7 (yes I know 6-7) minutes to go Zak Parnis in goal had to leave the field injured. Into goal went our right back Aaron Kiely. Kanturk battled through to the end to emerge winners by 3-4.
If these lads need the sun to be shining to play well we might be in for a long season.
Thanks to Carrigtwohill for hosting and giving us such a tough match, and to all our players and supporters for travelling.
