Kanturk U13s delivered an excellent all-round performance in their home league clash against Avondale on a beautiful sunny day, securing a well-deserved 3–0 victory.
From the first whistle, Kanturk looked sharp, composed, and firmly in control. Their early dominance paid off midway through the first half when Nida Vaivade stepped up to take a free kick just outside the box and struck it superbly into the net .
Defensively, Kanturk were outstanding throughout. The back four of Hannah O Keeffe, Amy Moynihan , Aoife Morgan and Laoise Ryder worked tirelessly, closing down quickly and limiting Avondale’s chances. When the visitors did manage to break through, goalkeeper Leah O’Rahilly Drew was alert and dependable, making crucial saves to keep her side in front.
Kanturk doubled their lead just before halftime when Ella Drennan reacted quickest to a loose ball from the Avondale goalkeeper, calmly rounding her before finishing to make it 2–0 at the break.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Kanturk maintaining control and continuing to apply pressure. Emma Finn and Nida Vaivade were excellent in the centre of the pitch, working tirelessly throughout and linking play effectively.
Nida Vaivade added her second of the game with another outstanding free kick from outside the box, sealing an impressive performance.
There was also great work out wide from Saoirse Llerena and captain for the day Ava Field, both of whom made significant contributions to Kanturk’s attacking play.
In the end, it finished 3–0 to Kanturk after a strong team display. The girls are back in action this Thursday night as they compete in a quarter-final in the Plate competition.
