Kanturk AFC U13s travelled to face Carrigtwohill United in the quarter-final of the Plate on a dry evening, with both sides eager to secure a semi-final spot.
Kanturk were dealt an early setback before kick-off when their regular goalkeeper was ruled out through illness. Stepping up admirably, Ruby Galvin took on the responsibility between the posts, as well as captaining the side on the night.
Despite the disruption, Kanturk started the stronger of the two teams, dominating possession and applying early pressure during the opening 10β15 minutes. However, against the run of play, Carrigtwohill capitalised on a loose ball in the box around the 20-minute mark to take a 1β0 lead.
Kanturk regrouped but went into the break trailing by a single goal.
The second half saw Carrigtwohill raise their intensity, forcing Kanturk to dig deep defensively. Ruby Galvin proved outstanding in goal, producing a crucial save to tip a powerful effort over the crossbar, followed by a brilliant one V one stop to deny the home side a second goal.
In front of her, Aoife Morgan delivered a commanding performance at centre-back, making several vital clearances throughout the game to keep Kanturk in contention.
Kanturk continued to battle and were unfortunate not to find an equaliser in the closing stages, showing great determination and teamwork until the final whistle.
Final Score: Carrigtwohill Utd 1β0 Kanturk AFC
Despite the result, it was a fantastic team performance from Kanturk, and the girls can be extremely proud of their effort, resilience, and spirit throughout.
