On Sunday afternoon Kanturk AFC u16 travelled to Riverstown for their league fixture.
Kanturk had a few early chances, but the breakthrough came after 15 minutes when Milosz Florczak hit a free kick that took a deflection wrong footing the goalkeeper. Just 3 minutes later a long throw from Fionn Bourke was flicked into the back of the net by Ryan Finn.
Half time 0-2
Into the second half and Riverstown were looking to get back into the match. A free kick conceded and Riverstown scored direct from it. How would Kanturk react. 5 minutes later Conor O’Dea sent in a high looping pass to Oisin Mernagh inside the box who caught it in the volley smashing it home. Shortly after Oisin was at it again this time with a half volley and then completed his hat trick with another shot into the corner of the goal.
Then penalty conceded, Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Aaron Breen Kanturks centre back/ stand in goalie, guessed correctly diving to his right to save the penalty.
Callum Thompson completed the scoring, latching onto a through ball from Oisin Mernagh before dispatching it into the Riverstown goal. A few more chances came and went with Jehr Cronin unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet.
Although the forwards grabbed the glory it was Kanturks defence lad by Oisin Aherne who put in the hard yards with Tadgh O’Connor working tirelessly up and down the left hand side.
Final score
Riverstown 1-6 Kanturk
