Kanturk U13 girls produced an excellent performance at home today, overcoming Macroom FC with a display full of energy, skill, and determination.
The home side started strong , creating several chances in the opening 10 minutes. Their early pressure paid off when Sarah Kiely delivered a perfectly weighted through ball to Nida Viavade, who showed great composure and skill to beat two defenders before finishing confidently to open the scoring.
Macroom responded well and applied pressure on Kanturk’s defence, but the back four stood strong, dealing confidently with everything that came their way. Kanturk extended their lead before halftime when a dangerous corner from Ella Drennan caused confusion in the box and was deflected into the net, giving the home side a deserved 2–0 lead at the break.
Macroom started the second half brightly, but Kanturk’s midfield duo of Katie Cashman and Emma Finn worked tirelessly, closing down space and turning defence into attack. Their efforts helped supply Ruby Galvin and Nida Viavade, who consistently threatened and kept the Macroom goalkeeper busy with a series of chances.
Kanturk’s third goal came from excellent teamwork, with Amy Moynihan clearing the ball before delivering a superb pass forward to Nida Viavade, who finished calmly under pressure to extend the lead.
To their credit, Macroom never gave up and were rewarded when they capitalised on a corner that wasn’t fully cleared, pulling a goal back and briefly shifting the momentum. A strong spell followed from the visitors, but Kanturk’s defence—Aoife Morgan, Amy Moynihan, Hannah O’Keeffe, and Laoise Ryder—along with goalkeeper Leah O’Rahilly Drew, stood firm under pressure.
With five minutes remaining, Kanturk sealed the victory in style. Captain for the day Ella Drennan played a brilliant pass to Saoirse Llerena, who produced a superb finish into the top corner to cap off a well-deserved win.
A fantastic team performance from Kanturk, with great effort across the pitch. Credit to Macroom FC for their determination and for making the trip.
