Kanturk AFC under 16’s continued their chase for a league title away to Macroom on a sunny showery Sunday.
Slow to start but after 15 minutes Tadgh O’Connor scored a a fine solo goal, ten minutes later Callum Thompson scored from a Paddy Hickey pass. The floodgates opened. Ryan Finn sent Oisin Mernagh on his way for 3-0. Then another fine solo effort from Callum Thompson. Ryan Finn ended the half with a goal for 5-0.
To their credit Macroom battled on and stemmed the flow of goals in the second half. But Kanturk continued to press and Oisin Mernagh made it 6, then Oisin scored direct from a corner kick to complete his hat trick.
Macroom were celebrating the official opening of their Astro and their was a slightly surreal moment when the DJ was blasting out “I love to love” by Tina Charles, Green and white balloons were waving as the bouncy castle went up and the Kanturk bench starting swaying and singing along. Well perhaps just those of a more mature age.
Oisin brought us back to reality with his 4th goal. With the clock running down Conor Cremin got in on the act with a well taken shot.
