Kanturk AFC u16 played their penultimate league match away to Avondale Utd on Wednesday evening
It took 15 minutes to get on the score sheet. A sweeping move ended with Oisin Mernagh passing to Ryan Finn to finish. A few minutes later Oisin was through in goal but unselfishly passed to an unmarked Ryan to grab his second goal. Milosz Florczak then scored a fine solo goal to make it 0-3.
Avondale fought back and were rewarded with a headed goal from a corner. Kanturk where now flying and a cross from Tadgh Corrigan was met by Jack O’Keefe to turn in the ball in from a few yards out.
Then just before half time Oisin Mernagh grabbed his first goal of the game to make the score 5-1.
Into the second half and Avondale dug deep and to their credit stopped Kanturk from scoring for 35 minutes, but then Callum Thompson scored from distance, quickly followed by Oisin for his second as the clock ticked down. As usual the forwards grabbed the glory but all wins are on the back of hard work by the whole team and especially the back line led by the captain Bryan Quirke with the steadying influence of Aaron Breen in goal.
