A home match for our lads today and for the middle of October, we couldn't have asked for better conditions.
Ballinhasig were the visitors another big side who looked up for it from the start. The first half kicked off and our boys started with their traditional high tempo. Danny Daly and James O`Shea both had early chances saved well by the Ballinhasig keeper.
The game settled in and Kanturk kept the pressure on. Corner after corner came in only to be cleared by some solid defending by the away team. Shots from Donnacha MacCárthaigh and Micheal Philpott were saved heroically again by the away teams keeper. Ballinhasig had a couple of chances and only for a brilliant save by Maidhc O Ruairc, our lads could have found themselves down against the run of play.
With time running out in the first half a well timed through ball put Garrett OKeeffe one on one with the keeper. Surely this was the moment... but once again the Ballinhasig keeper pulled off a fantastic save to keep it level at halftime.
The second half kicked off and our lads kept the pressure on. Kanturks defence was solid clearing everything that came near them, the midfield battled for every loose ball and the forwards hit shot after shot only for the Ballinhasig keeper to stand strong. He was having one of those games!
With time running out it certainly looked like a second draw on the bounce was on the cards. Ballinhasig had effectively parked the bus and their keeper looked like he wasn't letting anything in.
BUT anyone who has watched this group of lads will know one thing. They never give up!
In the last few minutes of the match up steps Donnacha MacCárthaigh with a driving run. With defenders bouncing off him he hit a shot low and hard that finally settled in the back of the net. The relief was heared in the cheering from the crowd and the celebration on the pitch.
Ballinhasig had battled so hard and given everything, they were dead on their feet. Our boys were not satisfied, they didn't sit back. Danny Daly made it 2 straight after the kick off before Garrett OKeeffe took the game well and truly out of sight with our 3rd and 4th. You wait all game for a goal and they score 4 in the last 5 minutes! Final score Kanturk 4 Ballinhasig 0.
Fitness, determination, team work. Our boys showed what it takes. Once again lads you should be very proud.
A big shout to Chris and the boys from Ballinhasig that was a hell of a game.
Parents as every without your commitment, these days aren't possible. Thank you.
We go again!
